Lesson 1. Flash Basics

Lesson 1. Flash Basics

Before you're through with this book, you'll know how to use Flash to create complex Web movies with animations, buttons, and scripts. But every long journey starts with a single step—and in this case, your single step involves learning how to set Flash's preferences, how to customize its workspace for your use, and how to use some of the most straightforward of its tools and commands.

If you're familiar with other drawing or painting software—or any complex program that uses preferences and palettes—some of this lesson may seem to be too simple for you. Read through it anyway. Flash does a few things differently from other programs, and it's worth your time to learn about those variations.

You'll use Flash's drawing tools in this chapter to create some very simple movies.

You'll experiment with Flash's panels and tools, creating a very simple movie.
