Rotoscoping

Rotoscoping is a traditional animator's technique that involves tracing live-motion film to create animation. This process is named after an actual machine, the Roto scope, which projected live-action film onto an animation board. There, an animator could easily trace the outline of an actor, frame by frame, in order to get a natural motion that would be too difficult to animate by hand.

You can use Flash to import and display QuickTime movies, and do the rotoscoping yourself.
