Part III: Navigating Timelines and Communicating > Managing Flash Communication

Chapter 5. Managing Flash Communication

To create interactivity and direct your users to see, hear, and do exactly what you want them to, you have to know how to control the Flash playhead on different Timelines. The playhead displays what is on the Stage at any time, plays back any sound, and triggers any actions attached to the Timeline. Jumping from frame to frame on the main movie Timeline is simple enough, using basic actions you're familiar with, such as Go To, Play, and Stop. But when you bring movie clips into your movie, you introduce other Timelines that can be individually controlled. Your main Timeline can control a movie clip's Timeline; a movie clip's Timeline can, in turn, control the main Timeline; and the Timeline of one movie clip can even control the Timeline of another. Handling this complex interaction and navigation between Timelines is the subject of this chapter.
