Chapter 1. Why Flash? > Widespread Viewability

Widespread Viewability

The Internet represents the future of communications. Already, it allows us to view video from anywhere in the world, send messages with pictures, make Internet phone calls, and hold international meetings. However, not everyone has an Internet connection, and even if they do, it may not always be available to them.

Although Flash was designed to create compact, fast-loading multimedia—which makes it an ideal technology for the Web—you are not restricted to delivering your Flash content over the Internet. Any Flash-created content can be exported as a multimedia movie for use on the Web, as video that can be viewed on both Windows and Macintosh computers, and even as a stand-alone program that you can distribute on floppy disks. With the Flash player being integrated into nearly every type of digital informational or entertainment device, you can count on a growing audience for years to come.
