Special Libraries

Normally, the assets that appear in the library window are only available to the movie you're working on currently—a situation that could be frustrating if you'd spent a great deal of time creating and fine-tuning an asset that would work perfectly in another project. Don't despair: Two special types of Flash libraries make it possible to use the same assets in more than one movie.

Common Libraries

Common libraries are nothing more than flash authoring files (.fla's containing library assets such as symbols, sounds, and bitmaps) that are placed in a special folder on your hard drive. By placing an .fla file in this folder, the contents of its library become available through the Flash menu bar (Figure 13.11).
