Chapter 7. Symbols > Editing Symbols

Editing Symbols

Now that you've figured out how to create symbols, it's time to learn how to edit and work with them. Symbol editing involves editing a symbol's content and timeline. When you edit a symbol in this manner, all instances of it—regardless of where they exist in your movie—reflect your changes. Symbol instances will, however, retain instance- specific edits—for example, to their size, tint, and any interactivity they're set to perform.

Symbol-Editing Mode

To edit a symbol's content and timeline, you must place it in symbol-editing mode. This changes the context of the Flash authoring environment from one where you're working with and editing your entire movie to one where you're working with and editing the content and timeline of a particular symbol.
