Chapter 5. Sound > Importing Sounds

Importing Sounds

You cannot record sounds in Flash; instead, you must import them. This means you need to record your sound files outside of Flash, download them from the Internet, or purchase a sound collection. Flash can import .wav (Windows), .aiff (Macintosh), and MP3 (Windows and Macintosh) sound files. If you have QuickTime 4 (or later), you can import both .wav and .aiff sound files, regardless of which operating system you use. Because any sound you import into Flash becomes part of the authoring file, you can keep your file size reasonable by importing MP3 files.

Tip

You cannot use MIDI files within Flash. The only way to control a MIDI file using Flash is via JavaScript.
