Expressions

Expressions represent the heart of any truly dynamic and interactive Flash movie, making each user's experience unique. Although many of the scripts you've seen up to this point contain expressions, it's time to describe and explain their function in your ActionScripts.

Basically, an expression is a phrase—or collection of variables, numbers, text, and operators—that represents one evaluation, result, or assignment. Expressions are evaluated to carry out a number of tasks, including setting a variable's value, defining which targets it will affect, determining which frames to go to, and more. Take a look at the following script, which uses an expression to evaluate which frame number to go to:
