Chapter 6. Bitmaps > Using Bitmaps in Shared Libraries

Using Bitmaps in Shared Libraries

Once you've imported a bitmap into the library, you can turn it into a shared library asset, which enables you to use it across multiple SWF files. The benefits of this are twofold: First, because bitmaps reside in a central location (the shared library), users only need to download them once (rather than into every movie in which they are used)—which translates to substantially reduced download times. Second, whenever you update an image in the shared library, any movie that's "linked" to it will reflect those changes.

For information about shared libraries, see Chapter 13, "Using the Library to Manage Your Assets."
