Creating Shared Libraries

In earlier versions, Flash always stored all the symbols for a movie in a library stored with the movie's .fla and .swf files. That meant that even if you used the same company logo symbol in five movies on your site, you had to place that symbol in each of the five movie's libraries and users had to download it five separate times. Flash 5 lets you share library items among multiple movies.

To make it easier to see what's going on, for the following exercises, create two new movies. Name them for their functions—for example, ItemsToShare.fla and UsingSharedItems.fla. Store them both in the same folder, SharingTest.
