System Requirements

You can create Flash 5 content on the Macintosh and Windows platforms. As a Flash author, you must consider not only the requirements for creating and viewing Flash movies on your own system but also the requirements for viewers of your movie. The following sections list the system requirements for both activities.

To create and edit Flash 5 movies on a Macintosh:

Processor: PowerPC

Operating system: Mac OS 8.5 or later

RAM: 32 MB

Free disk space: 40 MB

Monitor: 256 colors, 800-by-600 resolution

To create and edit Flash 5 movies in Windows:

Processor: 133 MHz Intel Pentium

Operating system: Windows 95, 98, Me, or later; NT 4.0, 2000, or later

RAM: 32 MB

Free disk space: 40 MB

Monitor: 256 colors, 800-by-600 resolution

To play Flash 5 movies via browser on a Macintosh:

Processor: PowerPC recommended

Operating system: Mac OS 8.1 or later

Browser/player: Netscape 3 or later, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3 or later plus Netscape-compatible plug-in

Other: For movies that rely on Flash Player, Java Edition (a Java-enabled browser)

To play Flash 5 movies via browser in Windows:

Operating system: Windows 95, 98, Me, or later; NT 4.0, 2000, or later

Browser player: Netscape 3 or later, plus Netscape-compatible plug-in or Internet Explorer 3 or later and ActiveX control

Other: For movies that rely on ActiveX controls, Internet Explorer 3 or later and Windows 95 or later, or NT or later; for movies that rely on Flash Player, Java Edition (a Java-enabled browser)

To play Flash 5 movies via browser under Linux:

Processor: Pentium

Operating system: Redhat 5.1 or 5.2, Slackware 3.5

Browser player: Netscape 3 or later, with standard installation settings

To play Flash 5 movies via browser under Solaris:

Processor: Sparc with 24-bit color

Operating system: Solaris 2.5 or 2.6

Browser player: Netscape 3 or later, with standard installation settings
