Chapter 15. Introducing Complex Interactivity

Chapter 15. Introducing Complex Interactivity

In Chapters 12 and 13, you created scripts using Basic Actions statements and simple parameters. As you explore the full Actions set, you begin to work with more complex parameters. These complex actions allow you to manipulate objects within the main movie; test for the truth of certain conditions; retrieve information from user input, other movies, and other types of files; and control the programs that display your movies.

Key to this kind of scripting is working with variables—containers for storing information—and expressions—formulas for manipulating that information. With these items, you can create sites that respond more directly and individually to users.

The ways in which you can combine the elements of a movie with actions are too varied and advanced to cover in this book. But to get you started, this chapter takes you through some basic concepts that you need to create complex actions.
