Using the Actions Panel

You construct ActionScripts in a window in the Actions panel, called the Actions List. You basically have two ways to get actions into the list. In Normal mode, you choose English-like statements from a menu or list. Flash helps you fill in any parameters appropriate to the statements and translates them into ActionScript. In Expert mode, you can choose statements from a list, enter ActionScript statements into the Actions List directly or import them from a text editor. The statements available in the Normal and Expert modes are the same; in Expert mode, however, you must always script any parameters yourself.

You can set the ActionScript mode as a preference so that Flash automatically opens the Actions panel in your preferred mode. You can also switch modes from the Actions panel itself. For the following exercises, keep the Frame Actions panel set to Normal mode.
