Symbols

Flash symbols are graphic objects that are stored by Flash. What makes symbols so important is their reusability. When you create a symbol, you can use it over and over again without having to redraw it each time you need it. And if you decide to change it, you don't need to change each copy, or instance, of it; you can simply change the stored master symbol. Changing the master symbol changes all the instances of it in your Flash movie.

There are three types of symbols: graphics, buttons, and movie clips. Graphics are noninteractive images to which animation and sounds can be attached. Buttons are graphics that can also respond to mouse actions. Movie clips are entire Flash movies that can be reused inside other movies.
