SYMBOLS

SYMBOLS

Flash symbols are graphic objects that are stored by Flash. They are important because they can be reused. When you create a symbol, you can use it over and over again without having to redraw it each time you need it. If you decide to change it, you don't need to change each instance (copy) of it; you can simply change the stored master symbol. Changing the master symbol changes all the instances of it in your Flash movie.

There are three types of symbols: graphics, buttons, and movie clips. Graphics are images that can have animation and sounds attached. They are noninteractive. Buttons are graphics that can also respond to mouse actions. Movie clips are entire Flash movies that can be reused inside another movie.
