M-Payments

Portability of mobile phones makes them attractive access devices for purchasing goods over the Internet. Consequently, m-commerce is expected to complement e-commerce as the use of mobile phones becomes more widespread (Andrieu, 2001). Therefore m-commerce will require a range of payment mechanisms to support different transaction types and the diverse profile of mobile subscribers. Possibilities include payments aggregated by the network operator and added to mobile subscription bills, credit and debit card payments, and the use of an electronic purse such as that offered by Mondex (Andrieu, 2001). In Australia payments for parking meters and purchase of cokes via mobile phones are currently being trialed.
