Intranets

The term intranet has come to be used for applications of Internet technologies on internal networks of companies and other organizations. Intranets most commonly include Web technology in one way or another. For Internet commerce, intranets have two interesting properties. The first is that the intranet can be used to create a unified experience for customers by drawing on the resources of many different parts of the company, pulling together functions such as product information, technical details, customer service, ordering of products and services, as well as any other specialized organizations within the company. Second, Internet commerce applications can be deployed for internal use as well, making it possible to use the same applications for internal ordering, transaction processing, and service for internal “customers.”
