Chapter 10—System Design

For an in-depth discussion of how high-reliability systems are constructed, see Reliable Computer Systems: Design and Evaluation, 2nd edition, by Daniel P. Siewiorek and Robert S. Swarz (Digital Press 1992).

Ivar Jacobson's Object-Oriented Software Engineering: A Use Case Driven Approach (Addison Wesley 1992) advocates a style in which scenarios for how the software will be used are the basis for design. David Taylor has written an excellent introduction to object technology for managers, Object Technology: A Manager's Guide, 2nd edition (Addison-Wesley 1998). Steve McConnell has written some very good books about software development and project management; see Code Complete (Microsoft Press 1993), Rapid Development (Microsoft Press 1996), and Software Project Survival Guide (Microsoft Press 1997).
