Chapter 8—The Internet and the World Wide Web

One of the classic introductions to computer networking technologies is Computer Networks, 4th edition, by Andrew S. Tanenbaum (Prentice Hall 2002). The book Interconnections: Bridges, Routers, Switches, and Internetworking Protocols, 2nd edition, by Radia Perlman (Addison-Wesley 1999) describes many important networking technologies. Web Protocols and Practice by Balachander Krishnamurthy and Jennifer Rexford (Addison-Wesley 2001) goes into considerable depth on topics such as caching and traffic measurement.

Richard H. Baker's Extranets: The Complete Sourcebook (McGraw-Hill 1997) focuses on creating extranets to link multiple organizations.
