Chapter 14—Security

Web Security and Commerce by Simson Garfinkel with Gene Spafford (O'Reilly 1997) is a useful reference on security issues for the World Wide Web. The classic work on firewalls is Firewalls and Internet Security: Repelling the Wily Hacker by William R. Cheswick and Steven M. Bellovin (Addison-Wesley 1994). We also recommend White-Hat Security Arsenal by Aviel D. Rubin (Addison-Wesley 2001).

Building Secure Software by John Viega and Gary McGraw (Addison-Wesley 2001) discusses how to design and build secure systems correctly from the ground up. The particular security issues involved with database systems are described in detail in Database Security by Silvana Castano et al. (Addison-Wesley 1995).
