Case Study: Information Commerce

Our system example for information commerce is a newspaper that offers free access to the current issue, subscription-based access to the most recent year, and pay-per-view access to the archives. A diagram of this system is shown in Figure 21-9. This system envisions two classes of customers: direct end users and corporate users. Direct users have purchased their subscriptions individually, and corporate users are members of a group who have collectively purchased access. Note that the information commerce system also requires connections to payment processing networks, but these networks are omitted from the figure.
