Next, let us look at a consumer-oriented system, one that may or may not be part of a federated network. In general, it is able to operate independently, although it may also be integrated with other systems.

Overall System Architecture

The overall architecture of our complete business-to-consumer commerce system is shown in Figure 21-8. Users of the system may be direct users, those whose relationships with the seller are through an affiliate, or those whose relationships are through content syndicated to other systems on the Internet. In each case, the buyer may be associated with a buyer community via the federated commerce system.
