Four Strategies

The two key ideas, using the Internet to transform customer relationships and to displace traditional sources of value, lead to our four Internet business strategies: channel master, customer magnet, value chain pirate, and digital distributor. In many situations, mixed strategies may also be useful.

Channel Master

The channel master strategy works by using the Internet to build deeper relationships with customers in order to sell one's traditional goods and services. The channel master is organized around products, concentrating on the best possible delivery of those products and their related services. A company using the channel master strategy reengineers all of its customer-facing activities—channel masters must integrate the commerce value chain with their existing operations.
