Managing Content

Creating content has an essential creative aspect, but it also has a procedural aspect in which the path from the creative keyboard to a production Web site is carefully defined and scrupulously followed. This procedural work is sometimes called the editorial process flow or the publishing phase of Web content. This section follows content through its life cycle: creation, editing, staging, testing, production, and archiving.

Creation

Content must come from somewhere. It may be written from scratch, collated from other sources, or delivered by a live feed from other sources. Beyond the creative part of creating content, the procedural part consists of a series of conversion and formatting steps that different items go through before they are ready to become part of the live Web site.
