The Serious Business of e-Business Blueprint Planning

Aligning strategy with e-business execution is a serious undertaking. Even the best ideas are rarely implementable as is. Enterprise innovation requires a master plan, or e-blueprint, to build a creative work environment in which a steady stream of high-potential ideas can emerge and be manifested through the enterprise's infrastructure and strategy. Top management should play a strong role in the blueprint-planning process, for three reasons: Blueprint decisions are among the most important a company makes, may cut across several product lines or divisional boundaries, and frequently require the resolution of cross-functional conflict.

One problem with creating an e-blueprint is that each participant in the process has a different perspective on the end result.
