Chapter 5. Constructing the e-Business A... > e-Business Architecture = Integrated...

e-Business Architecture = Integrated Application Frameworks

Business executives increasingly are understanding the power of integrated architecture in servicing customers. As these managers transform their companies from isolated fiefdoms to process-centered organizations, every aspect of the organization is being transformed by integration of disparate processes. This thinking, first applied to manufacturing and order fulfillment, is now found in sales, employee self-service, and customer service. An integrated-process view infuses support areas, such as finance and human resources, with a strong customer orientation.

Figure 5.11 shows how all the various application frameworks are integrated to form the model of an e-business enterprise. This blueprint is useful because it assists managers in identifying near-term and long-term integration opportunities, based on predefined strategies. Most of all, it helps managers grasp the big picture, so they can set priorities.
