Chapter 5. Web Store Business Models > Which Model Works for You?

Which Model Works for You?

When deciding which model to employ, the most important thing to consider is how you intend to connect the merchandise you want to sell with the customers you want to serve. The process you choose to implement entices people to shop with you and creates the energy that moves items out the door.

After you've decided what to sell and to whom to sell it, then and only then should you search for the model that brings these two groups together. If your intended customer base requires outstanding customer service, you would be better served by choosing the community model rather than an in-stock advantage model because your customers are more interested in service options than immediate delivery. However, if you sell readily available merchandise, a low-price model might work best.
