Chapter 5. Web Store Business Models > Choosing a Business Model

Choosing a Business Model

Deciding on a Web business model is paramount to a store's success. Opening a Web store is more than just slapping together a nice Web site and offering products for sale. A store-owner must decide how the store will make money. As you will see, there is more than one way to operate a store on the Web.

The rest of this chapter identifies, explains, and discusses all the pure online store models. Many stores use a combination of these pure models. Although the Web is still very young, and online stores are younger still, the Internet is filled with an amazing array of stores, some of which are discussed in Chapter 3. From online auction houses like OnSale.com and eBay to import specialists like Tronix to sales-lead stores like Micro s oft's Carpoint, there are a number of successful examples from which to learn.
