Part III: Promoting Your Store > Promoting Your Store Online and Offline

Chapter 11. Promoting Your Store Online and Offline

You have the greatest online store on the Web. Your content is second to none. Your graphics sizzle. Your prices and service are unmatched. So now you sit back and wait for customers to flock to your site, spend gobs of money, and pay for your yacht, right? Not so fast—the Web isn't an "if you build it they will come" field of dreams.

You know your store is outstanding, but how do you let everyone else know? There are some obvious ways to promote your store on the Internet: submitting to search engines, finding quality links, setting up bounty programs, becoming part of an online mall, buying advertising (online and off), and being involved in newsgroups and mailing lists. In Chapter 10, we focused on how to get the most out of newsgroups; in Chapter 12 we'll give you some tips for advertising online and offline on a small budget. Here in Chapter 11 we will cover search engines, links, bounty programs, and malls and offer some traditional offline promotional and public relations tips.
