What are Net.Commerce, Open Market Transact, and Microsoft Site Server?

Net.Commerce is IBM's main e-commerce Web server. Open Market's Transact is another major e-commerce server, and Site Server (formerly Merchant Server) is Microsoft's e-commerce package. All of these programs are high-end Web servers devoted to building Internet storefronts and e-commerce sites. While they are major programs for creating a shopping environment, tracking orders and users, obtaining demographic information, and securing payments, these programs would be overkill for most smaller store sites. And as good as they are, they do leave a lot of store building work for you. Plus their costs almost certainly place them outside the budget of a start-up business owner. However, if you're building a major e-commerce site (one that might receive thousands of orders a day), you might check into these packages and others, such as Broadvision.
