Unique Aspects of Internet Competition

Although a number of competitive aspects of online business are similar or even identical to traditional retailing, the Internet not only provides plenty of advantages for merchants but also a number of unique issues with which all store owners must wrestle. A Web store's worldwide reach and the fact that the Internet allows smaller outfits to compete directly with corporate giants are advantages for your business. Starting a small Web retail business is also generally less expensive than opening a traditional retail store. And once your store is off the ground, you can operate with a slim inventory. It is also much easier to track the competition and react accordingly. However, these are benefits that you share with your competitors. The businesses that best utilize the benefits of the Internet are the ones that survive and flourish.

There are also a number of issues that are uncommon for retail stores but important for Web stores to deal with effectively.
