Chapter 16. Electronic Software Distribution > ESD Fraud and Other Concerns

ESD Fraud and Other Concerns

When delivering software via ESD, make sure the software you sell is valid for sale outside of the country. The United States, for example, has strict rules against exporting software that provides certain levels of encryption and other security features. Serious fines and even jail time could result if someone overseas downloaded encruption software from you.

You might also have to deal with currency exchange, language issues, or local laws. For example, software depicting Nazi imagery is illegal in Germany. And while that might seem obvious, several years ago a WWII arcade game featured enemies with Nazi garb. It is difficult but very important to stay on top of such issues. You should make a concerted effort to keep from stumbling in the global marketplace.
