Chapter 19. Building Loyal Customers Thr... > Creating Email Mailing Lists

Creating Email Mailing Lists

A mailing list is a great way to send information to your customers. It allows you to have contact with your customer, whether it is announcing an upcoming product, a special or sale promotion, a new arrival list with pricing, or even important information such as special hours or holiday closings. If your email program features good filter capabilities (such as those in Pegasus Mail and Eudora), you can easily set up a mailing list. By having your filter look for trigger words such as mailing list, you can have your customers' email addresses automatically sent to a specific folder for future mailings.

Once a mailing list begins to gain members, you can provide regular updates —daily, weekly, or as new products arrive. For a mailing list to be effective, your customers must be aware of its existence. You can do this in your signature or on your Web site.
