Chapter 11. Working with Lists > Creating Glossary Lists

Creating Glossary Lists

In HTML, the DL (Definition List) element is used to create what is commonly referred to as a glossary list. A glossary list (or definition list) is a list that presents a term, followed by a definition that is positioned one line down and indented in from the margin. The term is formatted using a DT (Definition Term) element, and the definition is formatted by a DD (Definition Description) element.

Unlike for bulleted and numbered lists, there aren't any specific CSS properties that are used to format glossary lists. Style properties, however, can be defined for the DL, DT, and DD elements to alter the appearance of a glossary list.
