Chapter 15. Validating Your Style Sheet > Using Other HTML Validators and Page ...

Using Other HTML Validators and Page Checkers

The W3C and WDG HTML validators check your page against the official DTD (“strict,” “transitional,” or “frameset”) for the version of HTML used in your page. Other so-called “validators” do not check your page directly against the DTD for your page's HTML version and flavor, but may do additional checks and provide additional feedback on your page. These services or software might more accurately be described as “page checkers.” They might provide more profuse advice on your page's coding, warning of current or earlier browsers either not supporting or inconsistently supporting a particular feature, for instance. Other page checkers might test out all your links, reporting back to you which ones are dead or not responding.

Dr. Watson, an online page checker, for instance, will check your HTML, verify your regular and image links, do a spell-check, estimate your page's download speed, and check your page for search engine compatibility. You can access Dr. Watson at http://watson.addy.com/.
