Chapter 2. Setting Your Page's Base Styl... > Checking Which Browser You're Using

Checking Which Browser You're Using

In the previous chapter, you read about the implementation of CSS in Web browsers. To guarantee the best results when doing the examples in this book, you should use a browser version (or later version) characterized in Chapter 1 as a second-generation (page xxx) CSS-browser.You can use a later version of these browsers, but if you're using an earlier browser version, you should update the browser you're using before trying to do the examples in this book. For doing the examples in this book, you should be using one of these (or later) browser versions (download addresses are included if you need to update your browser):

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6 for Windows—you can download the most recent version of Internet Explorer for Windows at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 for the Macintosh—you can download the most recent version of Internet Explorer for the Macintosh at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/.

  • Netscape 6 for Windows, Macintosh, or Linux—you can download the most recent version of Netscape 6 at http://www.netscape.com/ (just click the Downloads button).

  • Opera 5 for Windows or Linux—you can download the most recent version of Opera 5 at http://www.opera.com/. A beta version of Opera 5 is also available for the Macintosh.
