Creating a Three-Column Layout

Many of the more involved pages that you've visited on the Web are designed using three, four, or more columns. The vast majority of those layouts, however, was created using tables to control the positioning and dimensions of the columns. This section's example shows you how to create a more-complex three-column layout that features a menu in the left column, the main content of the page in the middle column, and a list of links to related resources in the right column.

For this example, you create a page of Christmas safety tips. I've created an example file, xmastips.html, that you can use to create this example. Just open it from your working folder and edit it as shown in Listing 14.3 (see Figure 14.9).
