Chapter 14. Creating Page Layouts and Si... > Creating Multi-Column Layouts

Creating Multi-Column Layouts

Multi-column layouts are the key to creating more complex page layouts. The point of a multi-column layout is that by breaking up the horizontal span of the page, it allows more significant information to be located within the browser window. Although with a single-column layout, a user might have to scroll down through the page to find important information (because the different sections of the page are stacked vertically), with a multi-column layout sections (or stories) can be aligned horizontally.

The idea, in other words is to bring as many significant headings, links, and other objects as possible up to the top of the page, so they're visible and available to the user without scrolling.
