Chapter 22. Web Page Layout > Setting a Dynamic Header and Footer

Setting a Dynamic Header and Footer

One problem with designing a large Web site is that it's hard to change the design once you get started.

On my own Web site, I maintain close to a hundred articles that I have written over the years. I'm not a database guru, so I keep them in static HTML pages. But I like to tweak my designs every now and then. Rather than place the header and footers directly on the pages, I use JavaScript to "write" them onto the page. I use a JavaScript variable on the page to tell the imported JavaScript the title, date, and other information about the article (see "Using an External JavaScript File" in Chapter 23).
