Chapter 13. Dynamic Techniques: The Basics

Almost all of DHTML is based on a few basic tricks that allow you to hide and show objects, move them around, and make other changes. For the most part, these techniques are based on the ability to change the CSS positioning properties, which are the only common cross-browser CSS properties that can be changed. Netscape 4 does not allow you to address any other CSS properties.

So although Netscape 6 and Internet Explorer 4 allow you to change any CSS property (see Chapter 15), Netscape 4 limits cross-browser DHTML. The good news is that with the release of Netscape 6, Netscape 4 may soon be a distant memory.
