Identifying an Object on the Screen

In "Passing an Event to a Function" earlier in this chapter, I showed you how to use the evt value to find the object in which an event originated. Using DHTML, though, you can also have the browser determine the ID of the object in which the event occurred (Figure 14.6). In fact, with Internet Explorer and Netscape 6, this task is very easy, because the name of the element is part of the event object (Code 14.6).
