Adding Animation

Earlier in this book, I showed you how to create a simple point-to-point animation (see "Animating an Object" in Chapter 14). Animating a layer through a curved path or animating multiple layers, however, is better done with a program such as Dreamweaver. Imagine having to plot every pixel in an image individually, setting the position and color of every dot. Not much fun, is it? Image-editing programs take the drudgery out of the work. The same is true of DHTML animation. You can do it by hand, but it's time-consuming, more subject to error, and much harder to update quickly.

In the following example, I have set up five layers, each with a different letter (Figure 19.21). The letters will float around the screen for a few seconds and then come together to spell ALICE.
