Chapter 10. Text Properties > punctuation-trim Property

10.28. punctuation-trim Property

The punctuation-trim property is designed to be used with Asian character sets and tells the browser whether or not it should trim the leading space around punctuation characters — such as brackets — when they are adjacent to a character.

The punctuation-trim property has two unique values, none and start, as well as the ubiquitous initial and inherit values. The none value tells the browser not to trim the leading edge off of a punctuation mark, so it takes up the same width as a typical character; this is the default value. The start value instead tells the browser to remove any leading space in front of a punctuation mark. The initial value takes on the default value, and the inherit value takes on whatever parent value that may exist.
