Chapter 10. Text Properties > word-break-cjk Property

10.15. word-break-cjk Property

The word-break-cjk property is designed to give the Web author control over how line breaks should occur within words in Chinese, Japanese or Korean text (the “CJK” of word-break-cjk”) when mixed with text from another language.

There are five values for this property: normal, break-all, and keep-all, as well as the ubiquitous initial and inherit. The normal value is the default, which allows line-breaking behavior within characters. The break-all value works the same way as normal, but is intended for Asian characters, and yet is designed to allow any non-Asian characters to break as they normally might. The keep-all value is designed not to allow word breaks for Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters, although it works the same way as normal for any non-Asian language. The initial value can be used to force the property to its default value, and the inherit value tells the property to take on whatever parent value may be available.
