Chapter 24. Scrollbars > Scrollbar Properties

24.2. Scrollbar Properties

There are eight CSS scrollbar properties: scrollbar-arrow-color, scrollbar-basecolor, scrollbar-face-color, scrollbar-shadow-color, scrollbar-darkshadow-color, scrollbar-3dlight-color, scrollbar-highlight-color and scrollbartrack-color. These properties all control various color aspects of the scrollbar.

scrollbar-arrow-color sets the color of an active scrollbar arrow. scrollbar-base-color sets the “base” color for the scrollbar elements, setting the color values for the scrollbar button arrows, the arrow on the scrollbar button, the scrollbar slider and scrollbar tray (which is dithered). scrollbar-face-color sets the color of the “upper” portions of the scrollbar, namely the arrow button face, the slider face and the slide tray (which is dithered). The difference between the dithering value of the slider tray for scrollbar-base-color as opposed to scrollbar-face-color is that scrollbar-face-color presents a much lighter dithered color. scrollbar-shadow-color sets a color value for the bottom and right edges of the scroll tray and arrows (again, assuming a vertical scrollbar). scrollbar-darkshadow-color does the same as scrollbar-shadow-color, but the shadow effect is more pronounced. scrollbar-3dlight-color sets the color value for the top-left edges of the scroll box and arrow buttons and scrollbar-highlight-color sets the top-left edges of the scroll box, the “top” portions of the arrow buttons and the scrollbar tray to the desired color. The scrollbar-track-color property controls the color of the track in which the slider slides.
