Chapter 23. Multi-Column Layout > column-width-policy Property

23.5. column-width-policy Property

In most cases it is desirable to have the whole of the columnar display fit the full width of the available browser window width. In order to do this without having to explicitly set the exact width every time, you can use the column-width-policy property.

This property has three values which control the size of the overall columnar display: flexible, strict and inherit. The flexible value is the default, which tells the browser to increase the widths of the columns to fit the available space. When strict is used — which may be handy in situations where you want to ensure the placement of elements within the flow of the columns — only the explicit column width values that have already been set are used. The inherit value would take on any parent value that may already be present.
