Chapter 12. Box Properties > border-width Property

12.4. border-width Property

The border-width property is used to set the thickness value for the border to be displayed. It can either take an absolute pixel value or any one of three special name values.

This property can take from one to four separate numerical values which set the width of the border selected. If multiple values are to be set using other units of measurement, each value in turn must be set with a specific unit of measurement — one measurement unit value does not apply to all automatically. If a single numerical value is present, all borders are set to that value. If two numerical values are present, the top and bottom take the first value, and the side borders take the second. If three values are present, the top, right and left sides, and then the bottom take the numerical values specified. Finally, if four values are present, the top, right, bottom, then left borders take the numerical values specified. When specifying these values, you must separate them by a space, as can be seen in Listing 12.3, whose results are displayed in Figure 12-5.
