12.39. marquee Properties

The proposed CSS3 marquee sub-family of properties is used to produce a scrolling display of text or other block-level elements on a page. In an odd way it resurrects and expands the functionality of the old Internet Explorer-specific <marquee> tag, which could be used to create a scrolling display of text. Whereas the <marquee> tag was limited only to horizontally scrolling text, these new marquee properties allow images to scroll in addition to text, and they can scroll vertically as well as horizontally.

The set of marquee properties consists of four individual properties and one shortcut property: marquee-style, marquee-direction, marquee-speed, marquee-repetition and marquee.
