12.37. min-width, max-width, min-height and max-height Properties

The min-width, max-width, min-height and max-height properties are CSS3 properties designed to allow the Web author to specifically set the size of the content area within a given box element. They are there primarily to ensure that the box element is large enough — but not too large — to fit specific content.

The min-width and min-height properties can take a specific length or percentage value. The max-width and max-height properties go a bit further, and can take these values in addition to an auto or inherit value; the former value is set to the browser's default for a given box property, and the latter value tells the browser to take on any available parent value for these properties.
