Chapter 12. Box Properties > float-displace Property

12.23. float-displace Property

This is another CSS3 property introduced under the box model module. It determines how lines of text are wrapped when floats are present.

The float-displace property can take one of four values: line, indent, block and block-within-page. The line value is the default, and it tells the browser to shorten a line of text in order to avoid a floated element. The indent value adds a browser-determined spacing between a line of text and a floated element. The block value reduces the value of the block containing the text to avoid running into any floated elements; the intended effect is to resize blocks of text to whatever maximum spacing is available between floats. Finally, the block-within-page value works the same as block, but is designed to be more flexible, adjusting the width of the text block more specifically to its circumstance on multiple pages.
